Vista’s hosts file
Well, I finally got it!
I have tried over and over to get Vista’s host file to work. It’s not like I don’t know the format or anything!
Well, the solution is in the file itself (c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts for most installs). The last entry looks like this:
::1
Now, I don’t know what that means. It reminds me of NIS and other similar. My guess is that it tells Vista - “Please ignore this file, the user is an idiot and constantly has PEBCAP errors. “
The fix was to remark out that line
#::1
and save the file. Now it works!
As with all things Geek, your mileage may vary.
Comments:
Am I the only one who finds it extremely funny that you PEBKAC’d PEBKAC?
Given that I also find it enormously funny, the answer would be no. However, you ARE probably the only one who noticed.
Given how funny it is, I’m leaving it and not editing it away.
Thanks for noticing.
That was funny!
