Job Search - First Full Week

Well, its the first full week of my job search.

I have done the standards…

1) I have 2 slightly different resumes - one more technical, one more business; and
2) I have a generic cover letter.

I have updated my resume and profile on both Monster and Dice. So, of course, Dice says…

your active resume has been viewed 0 times

I have also started some targeted searches. The University world seems attractive to me. So, I am applying at various colleges and universities. The nice thing about this approach is that I have a few specific locations to look at for jobs.

First there is http://seeker.dice.com/jobsearch/servlet/JobSearch?op=300&SORTSPEC=0&DAYSBACK=30&LOCATION_OPTION=2&No=0&Ntx=mode+matchany&NUM_PER_PAGE=30&FREE_TEXT=10233800+10106785+10114636+10219933+RTL240470+RTL368949+RTX12cb06+RTL203506+10232717+RTL426249+RTL939169+10124614&N=0&RADIUS=64.37376&FRMT=0

Which is a 30 day search of a number of schools and universities on Dice.

Second, there is edu.edu/jobs
Third, there are the university web sites themselves.

Then, there are a number of associations. Unfortunately, many of them are a month or more behind. For example, http://www.career.org/iMISPublic/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Career_Opportunities&Template=/TaggedPage/TaggedPageDisplay.cfm&TPLID=22&ContentID=11103 is the career opportunities page for “Career College Association.” Their newest opening was posted 8/4/08 - a month ago.

I looked at http://www.ccconsortium.org, but they do not have a job board. I also looked at http://campustechnology.com, but, while it appears to be a good source, it does not have a job/career section that I can find.

And so, the search goes on…

Shooting stars

Tuesday night my lovely and I went out to the country at midnight and spent two hours leaning back in the jeep with the top down stairing at the stars and watching the Perseid metior shower.  We probably saw 15 shooting stars in about 100 minutes.  We could see about 1/3 of the sky due to cloud cover.

There is a pretty good time lapse of last year’s Perseid meteor shower here.

MIS Degree done!

Well, it took me 11 months to finish a 14 month MIS degree.  Unfortunately, I did not get a 4.0 like I wanted.  I ended up with 3.96.  I got 9 A’s (95% or better, including a couple 100%’s) and one A- (94.8).  An A- receives a 3.6 and an A receives a 4.0.

So, I now have an MIS.

The question is, do I go after an MBA next or a Doctorate in business or management next.

I have not decided.  I will do one of them, just don’t know which yet.

If you have any suggestions, feel free to comment!
