Motivations
My friend over here said that he wants to “have lots of people read what I wrote”. He has written several books, and indeed got me into writing when he asked me to write a few chapters for “CGI Programming in Perl, Visual Basic, and C” (ISBN 1-57521-241-2) eleven years ago. He also said that he has written one short story this year which he wants to get “published - like, really published”, which I presume from the context means not with Lulu but with a company that not only does book binding and printing, but also does the marketing, distribution, and sales - be that a magazine or a book publisher, he did not indicate.
I have a brother that just had his forth short story purchased. He is a “speculative fiction writer”.
Short Story, “Towfish Blues”, Talebones Magazine, I think will be in issue 36 or 37.
Short Story, “The Hanging of the Greens”, Aeon Magazine, #11, (Sep 2007)
Short Story, “F*cking Napalm Bastard”, From the Trenches: An Anthology of Speculative War Stories edited by J.P. Haines and Samantha Henderson (Jan 2007)
Short Story, “There Once Was a Girl From Nantucket (A Fortean Love Story)”, Fortean Bureau, with Ken Scholes (Mar 2006)
As you all (probably) know, I have had nine books published and one poem.
So, my question is, what is the motivation for writing? What is YOUR motivation for writing, if you do. What is your motivation for reading what someone has written?

Surprised
My poll about which you would rather watch surprised me. Perhaps I got bad results due to my choice in TV programs, but I really thought that Deal or No Deal would be much lower. Here were the final results of the 19 votes that came in.
Deal or No Deal
63% (12)
NCIS
5% (1)
Criminal Minds
5% (1)
College Football
5% (1)
NFL Football
21% (4)
Did you think it would be that skewed?

I still like my ascii moose.
Go ahead, mouse over it, you know you want to. Come on, go ahead, just take your mouse and move it up toward that big moose in the middle. SMILE!

Comments:
My mother did a lot of cross-hatching and water colors
My mother was an artist. Early in her artistic career she did a lot of cross-hatching and water-color peices. Later in her career she did a number of landscapes - particularly water/lake scenes and mountain scenes. She was unique in that she did it on many mediums - from traditional boards to untraditional mediums such as gourds, wood from the beach, ligh bulbs, etc.
I think I have some of her talent - how much is debateable… Most of my medium has been either pencil on paper or computer - either ascii art or like the new moose crossing done with dots.
I hope you enjoy my moose crossing.
